This week Novia takes you to Barcamp Auckland 2, an event organised and run by our very own producer and editor, Ludwig Wendzich. Barcamp Auckland centres around the sessions to do with web technologies but we’re not showing you those (we find those kinda boring and way over our head and we have a feeling so would you!)
We’ll be showing the all the cool stuff we found!
another podcaster, Simon Young from iJump.co.nz who hosts Jump In!
Throng.co.nz, like myspace for TV.
Rockband! Awesome!
Twitter.com - could be the SMS-killer (or not, you decide!)
Karl who has one of the most popular applications on the new iPhone 3G!
the ZUNE from Microsoft. Welcome to the social, well if you are in the US or Europe.
We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed the day!

I’m feeling really … like loaded? I feel like Atlas with the weight of the world on my shoulders, or sky, depending on which story you’ve heard. It’s not a lot of work I need to do but I just want to get it over with and have nothing… but I can’t because I have an internal I need to start and then that goes on until then end of the next term! And I have an Organic Chemistry test that I’m going to have the FIRST period I get back. GAR!!!
Plus, I still need to clean the bathroom and cars… AND I need to memorise the script for Golden Masque of Agamemnon. There’s no point in cleaning the bathroom right now because it was cleaned like 4 days ago and every week I’m meant to clean the bathroom but Mum goes and does it.
We check out one of Novia’s favourite British Dramas, Skins.

DE-railed
New segment this week! Somewhat spontaneous but quite hilarious!
I must say there are two competitions that I look forward to every year:
Choir competition Picnic Day- mainly for tug-o-war
We had the choir competition today. Over the last like 3 weeks it’s been stressing me out because its so hard to organise when NO ONE WANTS TO PARTICIPATE!
What’s more, we were told by Ms Cox that by some miracle we still had a chance at winning the Whanau Shield. Firstly, there is no trophy or award that I have ever wanted more than the Whanau Shield. Secondly, Discovery has already won it at least 3 times… because we’re awesome. However this semester there wasn’t a lot of participation with Swimming Sports and Athletics Day and all that so I pretty much thought that we were out of the running but before the choir comp we were coming second equal with Blake (GAR!) behind Britten. Now, I can say that Britten had never really been a big competitor for the whanau shield and now that they were winning, I was a little surprised. There was only one more competition for the shield, and it just had to be one of their strongest competitions. Choir.
I always enjoy the Choir competition because I like watching the other performances and it’s always really fun… but the MAIN reason I like choir is because it’s the deciding competition as to who wins the shield and Discovery is always one of the Whanau that have that chance at winning.
I knew that our chances were slim of winning the choir competition let alone win the shield especially since Spirit always pull out amazing performances and Britten always impress the audience. But still. We tried. Of course to win the shield we would have had to come 2 placings ahead of Britten… So that means coming first and Britten coming fourth. An impossilbity in any situation.
Here were the placings: -Britten -Spirit -Discovery/Endevour (I thought that we were better than Endevour) -Koru -Blake.
I just had a really sad thought. Because Discovery didn’t win the shield this semester and we will have already left when they give it out next semester I’ll never have the opportunity to accept the shield on behalf of Discovery.
So Britten won the competition and will be given the shield tomorrow at assembly…. and Discovery will come second. Again. Hey, at least Blake didn’t win.
Yay. I can now do things like my Chemistry homework on BestChoice and research things for my upcoming Classics internal. Oh the joy.
Thanks to Reagan who did Second-Draw-Down for me this week because I was feeling really sick (and I didn’t have any internet so couldn’t write a script.) CHEERS!
I feel better but still not 100% because for some reason my ears feel warmer than they should, body seems to have an infinite amout of mucus and my mouth feel all fuzzy on the inside because I keep having to breath through my mouth so I keep inhaling clothe fibres. Oh yeah and my nose has been skinned by repeated tissue use.
I have to go and do my stats homework…. GAR! It’s so hard. Waaaa…. IT’S GOING TO TAKE ME FOREVER!!!!!!
Before this week’s WYR?! we play video responses to our previous WYR?! from Josh and Leah.

My Faves
This week’s “My Fave” is a band called Reggie and the Full Effect. We feature some of their song “Get Well Soon”. Make sure to check them out, (they have a new album out) and remember to stay legal, use iTunes or AmazonMP3 for DRM-free yet legal music.
Remember to let us know (in either video response, email or comment form) which of the cities, or if you travel a lot, which sights, you have been to, or seen. In a month’s time we’ll play your responses on the show - dance in an iconic place in your hometown and we’ll definitely include you!
Welcome Reagan
Our team is finally complete. We have our host, Novia Ng and now our two co-hosts (aka correspondents) Caisey Lee and Reagan White. When I wished to start this podcast I would have never dreamed I’d have THREE talented, interesting and unique individuals to host the show and I am very excited for the future of this show!
Remember to make use of our subscribe links in the header!
On this week’s show Novia takes you back stage with the Botany Downs Secondary College’s Stage Challenge crew at Misson On Stage Challenge presented by Supre.
She gets interviews with the folks from backstage and up in the lighting box as well as answers to this month’s Would You Rather!
Sup peoples. My internet is finally working normally after being on the phone with numerous xtra tech support workers and unplugging and replugging in our modem. Gar at the silly internet.
Second Draw Down news: Ludwig, Caisey and I are going to write a song. Well I don’t know how keen the other two are but I’m keen because the person/people who write the best Pretty.Odd song will get to meet Panic At The Disco… *scream* This is for a C4 competition btw. Awesome for two reasons:
- There are THREE bands which I’ve decided that I’m definately going to meet no matter what and Panic are one of those bands. - I’d be able to interview them for SDD (which is why I’d be writing the song with Caisey and Ludwig) and it would be the best interview in the entire world.
I’m not going to be able to sleep because all I’ll be thinking about is how I’m going to win this competition and how the heck I’m supposed to compose a song which I’ve never done in my entire life. But mainly I’m going to be fantasising about the perfect interview with Panic and like, how I’d be really cool and unnervous and how we’d impress them being all pro and all that.
This week, Caisey Lee takes us backstage of the East Auckland Regionals of the Smokefree Rockquest. We cover 6 bands from the night; Sweet Jose, Epic Pulse, Blue in Green, Malford, Avaline and Catalyst - including footage of their performance as well as interviews before and after their performances!
We also catch a quick interview with Jermaine from C4’s Select Live and chat to some of the audience!
So Stage Challenge on Friday was so MEAN! I can tell you now that all of the early practices, after schools and constant running through the routine again and again was totally worth it.
RUN DOWN OF THE DAY:
5.35am- Wake up. I decided to wake up a tad earlier than I could have because I was paranoid that I was going to run late. 6.25am- Sian comes and picks me up. 6.30am- Get to school and we walk into the meeting and we get a run down about the day. 7.10am- Leave. This is probably the point where most of you wake up. 8.00am- Reach ASB Theatre and get stamped etc.
And from about then until 4.00pm we could do pretty much what we wanted as long as we weren’t having rehearsals or production meetings. The production meetings were so much fun! Production meetings were held just to sort out things like running order of performance and all of the formal stuff we needed to know about the day. So we go into the theatre with all 11 of the other schools and before we start they play music and have the lights going on on stage and at the end they do it again and everyone is dancing and having heaps of fun! EXCEPT I got mega sweaty and disgusting… Not so great.
Performance was awesome but in the end we didn’t get many prizes… which was pretty shit to be honest.
Botany Stage Challenge team I am so proud of you!
So yeah, I have other things I need to do that I left to the end of the weekend which include studying for my upcoming Organic Chemistry test and writing my part for the convo for French. Gar.
